Ta Keo

Ta Keo

Past the Thommanon, is the impressive temple-mountain known as Ta Keo. This is a rather large temple. When we got to Ta Keo, I stood there in awe of the size of the this temple. Also because of the number of steps the we are supposed to climb to reach the top of the temple.

Up Ta Keo

Up Ta Keo

According to archaeologists, Ta Keo, seems to be in the center of an ancient city built by Jayavarman V in the late 10th century. Construction of the temple was continued by the next king, Jayaviravarman, but was never finished.

This temple has several levels of stone surrounding it. Now, that I think of it, it does have the feel of a pyramid. Much like the Incas and Mayans built back then. The temple is a steep climb with the climber being rewarded with views of the surrounding area.

Large as this was, one can’t help but think that there were several temple much larger than this one. The towers at the top crown the top of the temple elegantly. It is said to represent the peaks of the sacred Mt. Meru.

What I like about this place is that there are only a few tourists here. Seems like those on tour group hardly ever come here. Which is a good thing.
