Lang Co Beach

Having finished our schedule in the Hue area, we then started to make our way into the historic town of Hoi An. However, this is something like a 5 hour journey by motorcycle. I’ve never treveled that long in a motorcycle before. It guess there is a time for everything.

Most of the trip is over the excellently paved north and south highway. Since our guides are very safe drivers, they do not drive that fast either or maybe their motorcycles can’t. Anyway, I still have to put my arms behind me and grab on to the motorcycle. Additionally, a lot of vehicles would be passing by us, including cars and trucks, keep in mind that this is a highway. The amusing thing about this kind of trip is that you get to see the road habits of the Vietnamese. On habit stood out in particular. It is their incessant honking. To them the horn is something that says, “Out of the way, I’m here!” Needless to say our humble little motorcycle got a whole lot of those.

Only A Few Tourists Here

The highway passes by a lot of country scenery, and was essentially following the railroad. At one point during the ride, we veered away from the main highway and went closer to the coast and entered what seems to be a resort. This is going to be one of our stopovers – Lang Co Beach.

Row of Beach Umbrellas

Row of Beach Umbrellas

This won’t be my first time to be on a beach, but I believe this is the first time I’ve been to one that looks nice and yet is very much deserted. The sun was high up and was really scorching hot. There were only a very few people on Lang Co beach, and it really feels like the entire stretch belongs to me.

The sand is nice and white, more so under the blazing sun, it is not powder fine though. There are some beach umbrellas on the beach with some seats and we quickly made use of it. Further down the beach, there were also beach tents also with seats. But aside from a volleyball net and a football goal, there isn’t much there.

Tents on the Beach

I had no plans on swimming especially that we still need to make our way to Hoi An. We just stood under the umbrella, too some pictures until it was time to go.

There are a few resorts in the area, but you can say that this place is still largely undeveloped. So it would be a good time to visit Lang Co beach before the tourist crowds really come. I wasn’t really expecting Vietnam to have beaches of that quality. That kind of quality I would come to expect from the Philippines or Indonesia. It just goes to show you that Vietnam is really full of surprises.
